Chief State Health Inspector, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria
Dr. Angel Kunchev was born in 1959. He graduated Medical University in 1985 and started working as epidemiologist in Regional Health Inspectorate. Since 2000 Dr. Kunchev works as a Head Of Communicable Disease Surveillance Department in the Ministry of Health. As of 2012 his current position is Chief State Health Inspector of the Republic of Bulgaria.
His main responsibilities are all activities related to the public health issues, including communicable disease surveillance, national immunization schedule, organization of all activities regarding to the vulnerable groups of population, environmental problems, etc.
As temporary consultant in WHO he took part in various missions in different countries, including Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Croatia, Norway, Macedonia, etc.
He is a national coordinator of South Eastern Europe Health Network Project of WHO, national focal point of IHR (WHO) and NFP for preparedness and response (ECDC). Since the establishment of the European Center of Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) in Stockholm he is a member of Advisory Forum and as of 2012 is a member of the Management Board of the Center.
Since 2013 Angel Kunchev is a member of the Health Security Committee in the European Commission. Some of his work experience also includes:
· Design and implementation of medical screening programmes amongst vulnerable communities;
. Activities related to country preparedness for public health events of international concern;
· Conducting qualitative and quantitative researches;
· Planning and implementation of generic and advocacy campaigns on immunization and various health services for Roma minority, refugees and other vulnerable groups;
· Participation in number of projects completed in Bulgaria by WHO, ECDC, DG Sanco, CDC Antlanta, Switzerland;
